I don’t know about you, but it does me good to think happy thoughts. Wasnt that what made the children able to fly in the story of Peter Pan? Whilst only a story, it had some sense in the concept. I am too quick to think sad and depressing thoughts and realise that I need to train my mind to think happy ones. How sad is that? Oh dear- there I go again!
So instread of thinking: “what a dark, depressing day”, I will think, “what a lovely day to spread some much-needed happiness and kindness”. Or instead of thinking how much I am struggling today, I will think of someone else to share some cheer. Instead of seeing bad first, I will look for the good and instead of spending lots of time watching or listening to unhappy people, I will look for happy ones (Funshine Bears Happy Activities).
I don’t think that this is living in the clouds either- or if it is, it certainly beats living in the mud!
“What you focus on will grow” is a saying I have heard. Now is the time to look each day for the things that I want to grow and focus on them. I want to see my relationships grow for instance, so it will be good to look at them positively and I wouldn’t be surprised if much of the negative things that I saw before disappears.
Children do this more naturally. There’s nothing to cheer you up like the smile of a baby. The challenge is to keep it alive in them and not kill it.
